Financial Incentives
A financial incentive is a type of compensation policy that offers additional incentives to an educator to make the transition to a hard-to-staff subject, school, or district. Typically, financial incentives—offered at the federal, state, or local levels (e.g., districts, community organizations, schools)—are part of a larger educator recruitment, retention, or redistribution strategy. For example, scholarships can be used as incentives to attract more individuals into the teaching profession. Similarly, housing incentives, a signing bonus, or both may be offered to recruit teachers to hard-to-staff schools.
